In Creators We Trust: Why Collaboration is Vital from the Get-Go.
Creators don't just tell your story, they help shape it!
Talent Agent & Account Manager Sarah McAleer discusses why Collaboration is vital from the beginning.
If you’re a brand investing in creator-led campaigns, don't just hire creators to tell your story, trust them to help shape it. The best campaigns don’t come from rigid briefs or one-size-fits-all messaging. They come from a place of deep audience understanding.
Creators spend years building trust with their audiences, something that doesn’t come easily. Building a personalised relationship with an audience is vital in today's marketing landscape. Creators now have a huge amount of data on their platforms that help them uncover what it takes to retain their audience’s attention and loyalty. Brands should make the most of the creators’ insights to allow the campaign to reach its full potential.
To name a few, here are some audience insights that only a creator will know:
What kind of content sparks genuine engagement
What topics feel authentic and what feels forced. They know what will keep their audience watching vs tuning out immediately.
The language, tone, and values their community connects with.
When and how to show up in ways that feel native and less commercially forced.
When brands bring creators in early and give them space to collaborate, the campaigns feel more human, more authentic and as a result of that, is more effective. We always encourage our creators to submit their concept proposals from the get go to ensure that the campaign runs smoothly for both parties and that there are no false expectations!
What Happens When Brands Limit Creator Control:
Many campaigns fall flat because the brand holds on too tightly to messaging and creative control.
Here’s what often goes wrong:
Inauthentic messaging: The creator sounds more like a spokesperson rather than being themself!
Low engagement: Audiences tune out because the content doesn’t feel real, they can smell scripted content from a mile away!
Damaged trust: Both the creator and brand can lose credibility for an inauthentic partnership.
The irony? The brand hired the creator because of their unique voice and audience, but then failed to use the creator’s amazing toolkit.
What Happens When Brands Trust Creators:
When creators are trusted as strategic partners, the results speak for themselves!
Stronger engagement: Content that feels real always performs better.
Increased brand affinity: Audiences appreciate and remember brands that show up authentically.
Smarter storytelling: Creators can translate your message in ways that will actually land with their audience.
The most impactful campaigns are co-created, not dictated. They start with a shared goal, and then empower the creator to bring that message to life in a way only they can!
The Importance of Shifting from “Control” to “Collaboration”
If you’re building a creator campaign, ask yourself at the start, “is this a collaborative effort or a one sided instruction?. Creators are not media channels nor are they actors. They’re community leaders, storytellers, and brand builders in their own right. When brands treat them as such, the results go far beyond impressions and clicks!
The future of brand storytelling is personal, not transactional. Trust your creators and respect their understanding of their audience. Invite them into the creative process early, because when you do, you don’t just get better content, you build better connections that will last long after the campaign is over!
